Introduction to Campaign and Community
What is a campaign?
"Work in an
organized and active way toward a particular goal, typically a political or
social one”
A Campaign is a
series of adverts across a range of different media platforms with the
purpose of promoting a product; publishing an event; raise awareness of an
issue; educate people or to provide a public service.
Our
campaign is going to be to raise awareness for an area of Baldock that we feel
needs regenerating.
Methods
of Promotion:
Types
of Campaigns:
Well-known Campaigns:
NHS Campaign to persuade parents to stop smoking.
This
campaign is designed to make the parents feel guilty and make them re-consider
how their smoking is affecting other people in their lives such as their
children.
The
advert uses direct mode of address is to make it seem as though she is looking
directly to the parent. She also has a ‘sad’ look on her face which is also
again to make the parent realise that their smoking is harming others.
Using a child is more effective than an adult
because parents consider their children to be the most important things in
their lives so the advert is hoping that the parents will realise how that
their smoking is scaring their children.
Transport
for London campaign about being safe when crossing roads.
This advert is
designed to show young adults how dangerous looking at your phone as you cross
the road is.
The target audience
is young adults which is clear from the age of the boy. The advert also targets
young people as they are commonly seen as the generation who walk around on
their phones all the time.
The advert is quite shocking
as the boy has clearly been run over and the words tell you that he walked out
and was hit by a truck. This is intended to scare the public into not using
their phones when crossing roads, by showing them what could easily happen if they are not paying attention.
Advertising Techniques:
Community:
Community is referring to
the town and everyone who lives there as a whole. We all use the facilities
within the town therefore everything within the town should benefit as many
people as possible – therefore benefitting the community.
Local Community Spaces:
The community centre in
Baldock is open six days a week and is open to anyone. Inside there is a coffee
bar and lounge area where you are free to sit and meet people or have a browse
through the selection of books and newspapers.
They also hold different
classes there – dance classes for all ages, languages lessons and another room
that can be hired. This is an important community area because it can serve as
a meeting point for people due to it being in the centre of the high street and
it is also a nice place to relax for people who may be out by themselves.
The library is another
important community space. The library is open 5 days a week to the public.
There are different sessions
for younger children and every summer they hold the summer reading challenge to
encourage children to read. This is another important community space because
it is a space for families to go together or elderly people can sit in the chairs
and read a book or the newspaper, without having to go out of their way due to
the library also being in the middle of the high street.
The park is a massive community area that is important. It is a place for children to play outside with their friends and parents are also able to spend time with their children.
It is important to have
space for members of the community because it gives them places to go and
interact with others. These places can serve as meeting points or areas to
‘hang out’ and they are free which is especially good for younger people who
don’t have much spare money to spend but would like to go out in the town.
Local Campaigns:
There was a recent campaign
to improve the avenue park paddling pool. The paddling pool was very run down
and often contained glass. This was a successful campaign as last year the
paddling pool was redeveloped into a splash park.
